Definition The status of something at a specific time, used as a comparison with other statuses.
Acronym
Explanation A benchmark can be a test to compare one or more quality aspects with a standard or with the results of the same test in a different situation. A benchmark can be used as a reference point, e.g.:

- A service management benchmark can be used to compare an organization's service management practices to those of another organization.
- A performance benchmark can be determined by taking measurements from a simulated environment.
