Definition | A meaningful change of state of an object or entity. |
Acronym | |
Explanation | An event is, for example, exceeding a certain limit value (storage capacity of a database, mileage of a car), or reaching a certain situation (data transfer completed, destination reached). An event can also concern the lack of something. Such an event is usually directly associated with a predefined action or assigned a meaning for subsequent decisions. Other events only lead to a recorded observation in the log of OPS.
In the context of service delivery, events that (may) have a significant influence on the delivery of services, are analyzed. If the event leads to a (potential) failure of agreed services, an operator may trigger an incident. This can also be automated, based on rules. |
