Routine

From USM Wiki

Preferred Term Routine
Definition A way of doing a specific workflow.
Acronym
Explanation USM identifies three types of routines:
  1. A workflow specifies only the logical sequence of process blocks with their process steps, activities, and actions.
  2. A procedure specifies the workflow with the process blocks and their process steps, activities, and actions, and their operators.
  3. A work instruction specifies the workflow with the process blocks and their process steps, activities, and actions, the operators and the technical instructions for these operators.

A practice specifies a practical way of executing a task, and therefor a practice is of the third type (work instruction). A procedure can be designed initially at the level of a process, so it can be re-used in the workflow that is composed of these processes.
